A Primer on Blow Dryer Attachments
As incredible as it is to have so many different options for hair tools at your disposal, you certainly wouldn’t be alone in feeling like the number of choices are a bit…overwhelming. From blow dryers to flat irons to heated styling brushes and much, much more, sometimes it seems impossible to keep up with the latest technological innovation in hairstyling. As if that weren’t complicated enough, you also need to consider the array of add-ons and attachments that just about every device features these days. This is most notable when it comes to blow dryers, which can include anywhere from two to six included attachments with your purchase. To clear up the confusion, we’re here to break down the most common blow dryer attachments and help you determine which works best for your hair needs! Concentrators By far the most commonly used blow dryer attachment is the concentrator, which allows you to customize the airflow of your blow dryer to suit your styling needs. The aptly named attachment is able to “concentrate” the air flow into a more precise and intense output, allowing you to create more defined styles. Many devices will include a variety of concentrators that vary in airflow output from wide-open to razor thin. The attachment is particularly useful for shorter styles or pixie hairstyles that require more precise manipulation and styling. Diffusers As the name implies, this attachment works in a directly opposite fashion of the concentrator, as it “diffuses” the airflow to be more spread out and less intense. This sort of attachment is ideal for those with extremely textured, wavy, or curly hair, as these hair types are particularly prone to dryness and frizz. The diffuser provides you with the ability to dry your hair effectively while minimizing the potential of frizz or damage from a more concentrated output. When paired with a blow dryer that utilizes ionic technology such as Sutra’s Accelerator 3500, the results are remarkably smooth, manageable and full of shine. Picks A more uncommon attachment, a styling pick looks much like a concentrator nozzle, only with added hair picks to section portions of hair and applying volumizing air at a deeper level. Pick attachments usually come in a variety of sizes, with shorter pick lengths for shorter hairstyles and longer pick lengths for longer hairstyles. Styling Heads The most unusual of the bunch, styling heads simply describe a class of blow dryer attachments that are designed in a unique fashion to accentuate the styling experience in a unique way. For instance, some styling heads include fine-toothed combs to section and smooth hair while blow drying, while others include bristles to enhance shine and create a more precise finish. Because of the variety in styling heads, feel free to mix and match with different heads, finding one that works best for you! 5. Crimped Waves Last but not least, let’s give summer a proper send-off with a fun, beachy look! Perfect for medium-to-short styles, simply part your hair down the middle, brush out, and use a crimping waver like Sutra’s Interchangeable Waver to create those gorgeous, crimped waves. Finish with hairspray and prepare to turn heads! Featured in Watch our Video

Top 5 Back-to-School Hairstyles
Summer is winding down, which means that back-to-school time is just around the corner!  For many teens, this is the first time in over a year that they’ll see their classmates in person, making it all that more important to nail that back-to-school look.  This year, there’s no shortage of head-turning hairstyles to draw inspiration from, with braids and buns making major comebacks.  See our five favorites below and kick off your school year in style!  1. Double Dutch braids Part braid, part ponytail, this look is equal parts fun as it is retro chic. Ideal for long hairstyles, you’ll need to part your hair down the middle and grab three sections of hair on one side of the head. Working in a Dutch braid pattern, bring the left or right section down under the middle section and up to the opposite side, and then repeat with the opposite section. Do the same on the other side of your hair, securing towards the end down the hair with a hair tie. 2. Space Buns Feeling daring? Try this hairstyle that’s out of this world! Simply brush your hair straight, part it down the middle, and tie ponytails on the back of your head. Then, bring each ponytail up to the top of the head and tie into a bun, securing with a hair tie. This is an easy hairstyle that really stands out! 3. Fishtail top knot Fishtail braids are all the rage this year, and this variation adds a fun, casual touch. Brush your hair back and tie one large ponytail, securing with a hair tie. Then, pull the ponytail up and begin creating a fishtail braid from root to tip, tying at the very end with a small elastic band. Finally, loosen up your braid and tie it into a bun at the top of your head, securing with a bobby pin. Spray with a product like Sutra’s Hair Cocktail to tame any flyaways, and voila! 4. French Braid Ahh, the classic French braid, a look that never goes out of style. While an iconic look, it can take a bit of practice to really master. Like previous styles, brush your hair back and detangle any knots. Then, working towards the top back middle of your hair, grab three sections of hair and begin moving one section across the other, working your way down until finishing in a beautiful French braid pattern. Secure with a hair tie and finish with hairspray.

Ancient Hair Care Tips
You would be shocked to learn of the lengths our ancestors went in order to perfect their hair. For example, in the Renaissance era, a common conditioner remedy was to a concoction of olive oil boiled in dead lizards! Thankfully, our hair care methods have evolved since then, and we now know much more about how to effectively, humanely, and safely take care of our hair. That being said, there are several haircare tips that have stood the test of time, and many of them might be just what you need to take your hair to the next level! Ancient Oil Conditioning Remedy While we’ve seen some wild and completely bogus hair care beliefs over the years, there’s one concept that has always been universally accepted: hair moisturization is an absolute must. For example, ancient Moroccans utilized argan oil, which was specific to their island country, to prevent hair dryness and frizz, while ancient Japanese and Chinese favored coconut oil. Most famously, the ancient Egyptians, popularized by Cleopatra, utilized castor oil and almond oil to keep their hair hydrated and shiny. Today, we not only know much more about which oils are most beneficial for hair and scalp health, but we also have the luxury of sourcing oils from all over the world. For a modern hair oil blend, consider Sutra’s Hair Cocktail, which features the aforementioned coconut oil, along with African marula oil and rare rose petal oil. Mesopotamian Hair Curling Although we may look at the modern hair curler, with all of its advanced technology and gadgets, and consider it to be a strictly modern hair tool, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, the art of heated hair curling dates back several thousands of years ago to the ancient Babylonian and Assyrian civilizations. Known as “curling tongs”, ancient Babylonian and Assyrian men would heat these bronze tools over a fire and then use them to shape their long beards into unique, crimped styles. Thankfully, our curling irons today utilize much more advanced and gentle technology. For instance, Sutra’s Infrared Curling Iron utilizes infrared technology to shorten styling time while preventing heat damage. Dry Shampoo Like a French Royal This may come as a shock, but the act of shampooing one’s hair is actually a fairly modern concept. The first shampoo wasn’t invented until the early 1900’s, and hair washing practices differ wildly over the centuries from culture to culture. However, in European cultures where wig-wearing came in vogue, the removal of residue and grease became a necessity, as it was incredibly difficult to wash a wig. Enter the invention of the first dry shampoo. French royals and elites in the 17th and 18th centuries were known to use flours and starches to remove oil and grease from their wigs, setting the stage for a practice that has evolved into today’s dry shampoos that double as an effective volumizing and texturizing treatment!
