Top 5 Back-to-School Hairstyles

Top 5 Back-to-School Hairstyles

Summer is winding down, which means that back-to-school time is just around the corner!  For many teens, this is the first time in over a year that they’ll see their classmates in person, making it all that more important to nail that back-to-school look.  This year, there’s no shortage of head-turning hairstyles to draw inspiration from, with braids and buns making major comebacks.  See our five favorites below and kick off your school year in style!

1. Double Dutch braids

Part braid, part ponytail, this look is equal parts fun as it is retro chic. Ideal for long hairstyles, you’ll need to part your hair down the middle and grab three sections of hair on one side of the head. Working in a Dutch braid pattern, bring the left or right section down under the middle section and up to the opposite side, and then repeat with the opposite section. Do the same on the other side of your hair, securing towards the end down the hair with a hair tie.

2. Space Buns

Feeling daring? Try this hairstyle that’s out of this world! Simply brush your hair straight, part it down the middle, and tie ponytails on the back of your head. Then, bring each ponytail up to the top of the head and tie into a bun, securing with a hair tie. This is an easy hairstyle that really stands out!

3. Fishtail top knot

Fishtail braids are all the rage this year, and this variation adds a fun, casual touch. Brush your hair back and tie one large ponytail, securing with a hair tie. Then, pull the ponytail up and begin creating a fishtail braid from root to tip, tying at the very end with a small elastic band. Finally, loosen up your braid and tie it into a bun at the top of your head, securing with a bobby pin. Spray with a product like Sutra’s Hair Cocktail to tame any flyaways, and voila!

4. French Braid

Ahh, the classic French braid, a look that never goes out of style. While an iconic look, it can take a bit of practice to really master. Like previous styles, brush your hair back and detangle any knots. Then, working towards the top back middle of your hair, grab three sections of hair and begin moving one section across the other, working your way down until finishing in a beautiful French braid pattern. Secure with a hair tie and finish with hairspray.

5. Crimped Waves

Last but not least, let’s give summer a proper send-off with a fun, beachy look! Perfect for medium-to-short styles, simply part your hair down the middle, brush out, and use a crimping waver like Sutra’s Interchangeable Waver to create those gorgeous, crimped waves. Finish with hairspray and prepare to turn heads!
