Win the War on Hair Loss and Hair Thinning

Win the War on Hair Loss and Hair Thinning

It’s safe to say that just about everyone shares a common fear of losing their hair as they get older. If you want proof, just google the term “hair loss”, and be prepared to be overwhelmed by the countless “miracle” creams, pills, and treatments that promise to stop hair loss in its tracks (spoiler alert: they don’t). For most of us, this fear is completely overblown, as hair loss is simply a natural part of getting older and will happen to all of us to some extent. However, what happens when you lose a noticeable amount of hair in a short amount of time? Excessive hair-loss or hair thinning can be caused by dozens of factors, and it is important to not only diagnose the root cause, but to also formulate an attack plan to return your hair to its normal, healthy state.

Diagnose the Cause

As soon as you notice you’re losing more hair than usual, your first course of action is to figure out the root cause. Oftentimes, the culprit is something as simple as over-styling or over-processing your hair, and the easy solution is to simply baby your hair and cut out direct heat styling or chemical treatments for a bit. Additionally, constantly tying your hair back in a tight ponytail is another common culprit, as the frequent tension on the hair strand leads to brittle, weak roots. Thus, letting your hair down and putting away the hair tie is the quick and easy answer.

However, if none of these apply, then the cause of your hair loss may be a bit more complex. Oftentimes the cause of accelerated hair-loss is lifestyle related, such as excessive stress or poor diet. If you suspect this to be the case, then you should immediately work to address the stressors in your life or revise your diet to include more protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. If after making lifestyle adjustments you notice your hair-loss is still an issue, then it is likely that your falling hair is actually a symptom of a much more serious medical concern, such as a hormone issue, an autoimmune disorder, or a vitamin or mineral deficiency. In this instance, consult your doctor immediately for a proper diagnosis.

Make a Game Plan

Once you’ve diagnosed the cause of your hair-loss and have begun treating the issue directly, the next step is to incorporate more products into your routine to encourage healthy hair and stimulate growth. When washing your hair, make sure to always use a rich, gentle shampoo, such as Sutra’s Replenishing Moroccan Shampoo, and follow with an emollient, moisturizing conditioner like Sutra’s Moroccan Conditioner. On a daily basis, make sure to incorporate hydrating serums like Sutra’s Rejuvenating Hair Serum, and nutrient-dense oil blends like Sutra’s Hair Cocktail on an as-needed basis to ensure your hair is continually moist, as well as to supplement your hair with ingredients like omega acids and vitamin E that are proven to stimulate hair growth.
